Mid-August 2011
Dear Friends, This August Grace Lutheran Church will be holding it annual Clothing Give Away. This will be our 16th Annual Clothing Give Away. Although this event was started primarily to provide clothing for school children, we received donations of all size clothing therefore we have clothes for everyone! Last year we helped 174 families (875 people)! Some of these people brought lawn chairs and were waiting in line when I (Bee) arrived before 7:00 a.m. (we do not open until 9 a.m.) By the time we opened, there was a line clear out to the parking lot! It is a wonderful feeling to see the expressions on the recipients faces when they find clothing that fits their needs. We usually help between 800 and 900 people which would not be possible without the help of all of you and our sister churches. Any left over clothes are taken to “Helping Hands” where they are also given to people in need. The Clothing Give Away will be held on Saturday, August 27th from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.. We will begin sorting clothes on Monday, August 22 and will not receive any donations after Tuesday, August 23. In the meantime, bring your clothing donations to the gymnasium and we will keep them until the sorting begins. Anyone who would like to help either with the sorting and/or on Saturday, August 27th, please contact Bee Cline at 682-0286 or tell Susan in the Church Office (685-6781). We will need lots of help before, during and after the actual day!! Sincerely, Bee Cline Board of Social Ministry
Has it already been a year? August 22nd marks the one year anniversary of when my family and I joined the Grace-Trinity family. There‘s much that my family and I are very thankful for, too much, in fact, to try to include it all in one newsletter article! However, what stands out most clearly is the way our Lord has loved and cared for my family through you. You‘ve shown such great support for Nikki as she juggles three little girls in the pews. You‘ve provided a place of love and joy and comfort for our girls—they look forward to Sundays where they get to see all their friends, and now family, at church. Through you the Lord has blessed our family immensely. We‘re now happy to call Wichita, ?home?! (And now that I think about it, this is the longest we‘ve lived in one place since high school!)
This year has without a doubt been a great joy, but I‘d be lying if I didn‘t admit that it‘s been busy! In one year, between Grace and Trinity, we‘ve had 16 funerals or memorials! We‘ve baptized 10, confirmed 5, received 12, either by transfer or adult confirmation, and married 7 couples, renewing the vows of one more! Yes, it‘s been busy around here! Besides those official acts, the year has been full of shut-in visits, counseling sessions, Private Absolution, golfing (not very well!), the fish-fry, trunk-or-treat, Christmas and Easter Vigil services, introducing the girls to horses, chickens, and other barnyard animals!, splash parks, fireworks (camel rides, too!), Bible studies galore, VBS (twice over!), a new photo directory, council and board meetings, goal planning, new member classes, basketball (both on Saturdays and after Confirmation), horseshoes with Bruce, the Lord‘s Diner, and Brazilian guests!
While that certainly isn‘t everything, it‘s at least a good start! What‘s most memorable, though, are the friendships that have formed. Little compares to the way you‘ve invited me into your lives—to hear your struggles, to share your ailments (whether it‘s a knee surgery three times over, or a constant battle with asthma), and to enter your world with the Words of Christ and His comfort for you. And that‘s what I‘m here for. That‘s why you‘ve called me—to be your Pastor. You‘ve asked me to come and be the mouth and hands of Christ for you. To deliver His gifts of healing, restoration, peace, and forgiveness—that‘s why I‘m here. And for that I‘m thankful. I‘m thankful to be a servant of Christ for you, giving what is His to you and taking what is yours to Him.
Thank you for a year of kindness, support, prayers, and forgiveness. Thank you for inviting me and my family into yours!
Yours in Christ our Life, Pastor Boyle
