Grace Ladies do not meet the month of February, but we are still visible.
February 12, 2011 the Wichita Zone met to plan the Spring Rally, April 2, 2011 and it will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church here in Wichita. Saturday will permit all those who work to be in attendance. Betty Kruse and Nina Borgstadter will be the guest speakers. The Rally will include the Day of Prayer Service.
We will also have election of Zone officers. Thank you to all who have agreed to serve.
We are still without a Member Development chairperson and with prayer and hope someone will offer to fill that position.
On the local level all officers will stay in place for another year. Again, thank you to all who have agreed to serve.
And we will continue to save stamps. However, the Forever stamp is not necessary to save.

Everyone is gearing up for the National LWML Convention, Peoria, IL in June. There will be a bus and more information to follow. Continue to work on mission projects. Grace Ladies have chosen Health Kits for this year and we will again ask the congregation to help us, and we thank you for the help.

What makes a Missionary League? Collectively all over the United States and the World with our Mites (money collected monthly) we support Mission work in many countries as well as in our own country and our State of Kansas. Here at home we do so many things along with the rest of the Congregation, we don’t even know we are doing it. Our Altar women are becoming less in number, however, those who serve are doing a beautiful job and trying hard to learn more about the Altar service and are willing to share their knowledge with others. Please see Shirley or Jean , or Audrey if you are interested in serving in that capacity. Our January meeting was canceled because of weather, but we weathered it a few days later and met on the following Wed. This meeting was specifically designated to do the planning for the year. It was basically successfully completed. It seems impossible that Lent and Easter is about to be upon us. We will have Easter Lilies in the Chancel and there will be a sign up sheet and publicity on the cost and to whose memory they will be placed in the Church. We disbursed some of our money and know there are so many needs in the world and our community and right here at home in the Church, and we will be sharing those expenses. We have set the date for the Cookie Festival for Dec. 3, 2011 and hopefully it will again be matched to help the Social Ministry with Christmas Baskets and Gifts for Christmas, 2011. Closer to home and coming up, we will be helping with the Benefit Dinner for Julia Ruble Feb. 5, 2011. There will be phone calls to make and help to set up and to serve. More about that in the next week. Some of us attended the Holy Cross Saturday Retreat January 15. The guest speaker was Gracia Burnham. There were about 80 women and it was a wonderful day spent together with fellow LWML women and friends. Some of us attended the two day planning meeting held at Holy Cross. We were fed with food, spiritual food, and much planning for this year and the future. It was well attended and the people that planned it need to be commended. There will be a National Convention in Peoria, Illinois, June 23-26, 2011, if you are interested in attending please see Audrey for more information. The theme will be Being with Jesus, Living on the Edge. Scripture verse: And they realized they had been with Jesus. "For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard" ACTS 4:13b,20 (NKJV) Scheduled for April 2, 2011, at Bethany Lutheran Church the Spring Rally will be held. The planning meeting for the Rally and also the Day of Prayer Service will be February 12, 2011. All officers and interested members should be in attendance. A snow date has been set for February 19. Please be diligent in prayer that our mite offerings might increase so that both national and district will be able to pay our projects. We do have financial assistance for anyone attending synodical schools, so please see any LWML member or contact the Church office. There is a very basic form to be filled out. Deadline is June 1, 2011. We are continuing to save stamps, and we thank Jean and Margie Heath for cutting and seeing the stamps are mailed or delivered. There is a box designated in the Narthex. All stamps except the Forever Stamp is acceptable. I urge everyone in our Congregation to continue to pray for the work being done by the Grace of God and the continued support of the LWML in our own Congregation as well as the World. Alma Kern wrote "We are children of the heavenly Father-a support system for one another. Our worship service is a family reunion. We weep with those who weep, Rejoice with those who rejoice. We pray for one another and for others. Burdens are shouldered; blessings shared."
Yours in Christ, Audrey Rolf God Bless and keep you!
PLEASE SAVE YOUR CANCELLED POSTAGE STAMPS: Any & all cancelled postage stamps are being collected to support Lutheran World Relief’s “Project Comfort.” This project helps pay shipping cost for items (like our quilts) to be sent overseas. The Texas District LWML is having a “LWR Stamporee” to collect cancelled stamps for this project. A sheet posted on the bulletin board and 3×5 cards are available with pertinent information regarding the collection of stamps. Also, there is a box on the Narthex table for you to put the stamps in. (You don’t have to remove the stamp from the envelope, just put them in the box J) Thank you in advance for your support
The month of January is a meeting month for Grace Guild and we will be having a planning meeting January 10, hopefully we will be able to set all our meetings and the things we want to accomplish in 2011. The Christmas month has been a very busy month and we found ourselves doing many tasks. The Cookie Festival was a huge success, and we had cookies left over. The left over cookies were taken to the Homeless Drop In Shelter the next day and were appreciated very much. It always seems that before the Christmas Festival we hear many wishing we would not be doing this, but then the day arrives and the sale is successful and we look forward to next year. So it goes. The monies that came in from the sale were $1506.00. That figure was matched by Thrivent and the matching funds were given to the Social Ministry to use for the Christmas Food Baskets. We will determine where the rest will be disbursed when we have our planning meeting. There are many needs at Grace and we will wisely use our funds. Communion was a big item this month simply because we had many more times to commune. Jean and Shirley took care of those duties very faithfully and we thank them both for this service. Christmas Eve was such a joyous service and 122 people were in attendance and we are so thankful for each and everyone’s presence. And we thank Pastor and the Worship Committee for planning such a spirit filled service. So now it is the clean up. The Christmas Tree and all the trimmings will come down after Epiphany and all that can help will be needed. The date for that will be announced. There are still a few containers in the old kitchen left from the cookie Festival, if they belong to you please take them home, and the foil ones left will be saved for further use at church. The refrigerators will be cleaned sometime early in January. If you and your family are responsible for a Confirmation supper please make sure you take home any leftovers, and throw away water and drinks that need be thrown. It gets to be a lot of stuff and the cleaner does not know how old it is and if it should be thrown. This would help a whole lot. Thanks to Thrivent we were given some money to spend and Roxann and Jeanette shopped for us and filled our cupboards with staples that we use up very fast. Also Shirley and Al Matz shopped for us and we thank them. The Quilters are going ahead this month and hopefully we will get a bunch ready to be tied. We wish to thank all those who contribute money, fabric, thread, and old and new sheets. We would like to do more than we did last year, however, we need more sewers and cutters. It is a fun project and worth while. Please join us. Meetings will be announced in the bulletin and calendar. The Christ Child who was born on Christmas Eve, grew up and died on the Cross and rose again for you and for me, therefore, go tell it on the mountain, hills and plains. God loves each one of us. Yours in Christ, Audrey Rolf, Chairperson.
LWML Wichita Zone Fall Workshop
Grace Lutheran Church – Saturday, October 23 beginning at 9 a.m.
Come and join us!
Serve the Lord with Gladness. "Quit thinking that serving the Lord is a burden; instead begin to realize that serving the Lord is an honor and a privilege; something to be done with love and joy." That is the all round theme of the LWML at Grace. There is so much to do and to accomplish and so few of us we are praying that others will take up the cross and join us. However, we are mighty and with the help of our Lord and Savior we will prevail. The month of September is a busy month and almost over and we are thinking of October. The Blessing of the Quilts was on Sunday Sept. 26, Pastor Boyle blessed them as we prepare to send them on their way to Lutheran World Relief Oct. 4. The Fish Fry is not a LWML sponsored occasion, but you will find some of the ladies helping to make this a fun and profitable time. Early in September. the ladies of LWML met with Pastor Boyle and he explained how he would like communion to be prepared and displayed and put away. You will notice we are not using the Flagon at the present time. Anyone who would like to help and learn how to do the communion service please contact Shirley Matz or any of the Guild members. It is a volunteer job and usually takes two people on communion weekends. We now have a Altar Manual, which will be very helpful. The robes and vestments for Pastor and the Elder robes will be moved into the safe room since they proceed from the back of the church before service. We have elected to have Poinsettias for Christmas to adorn our altar area, Shirley Matz will be putting out a sign up sheet in the future. We will be celebrating LWML Sunday on October 10th. Grace LWML is hosting the Fall Rally and we are expecting up to 75 people for that day. It is October 23. There will be much to do in preparation. And again I would plead for others to step up and offer to assist us in getting ready for this worth while occasion. (see more information on next page) The Lutheran Social Service has been storing important files in our conference room for the past several years. We are planning to move our LWML room to the room across the hall and the LSS will move their things into our room which was the Pastor’s Office off of Mueller Hall. That will take place sometime in Oct. This will allow Pastor to use the conference room when needed. No one has approached me to find out about the cross in the Fellowship Hall/Gym. The cross was made from a tree that was cut down in Faith, Derby parking lot. Mr. Bill Smith made the cross for us. We thank him. We will be finished with our soap drive and Health Kits by the time this goes to press, and I will report in the next newsletter as to the amount we sent to LWR. I want to thank you for all the cards and calls I have received. It is truly uplifting to know so many care. God Bless all of Grace. We are ever so thankful for our new Pastor Boyle and his sweet family. We pray we will be working together to build up the Kingdom for a very long time. And to quote the devotion again "Brethren, let us love serving the Lord with rejoicing and love.
Yours in Christian love, Audrey Rolf
